About the Artwork

Benny Andrew was a figurative artist who worked in an expressionistic style. He distorted body proportion, color and environmental details in order to heighten emotional effects or to develop a symbolic theme. Andrews’ work explores social issues and genre subjects.

Trick Shot is a drawing of a pool player whose legs and arms are composed of sharp angles that focus the viewer’s eye on the pool cue. The pool table is not well defined yet there is a strong sense of the concentration of a game in progress.

Andrews was born in Madison, Georgia, in 1930. He studied at the Chicago Art Institute and was professor of art at Queens College in New York City. He frequently wrote commentaries for national art journals.
