About the Artwork

During his long career, Paul Burlin was associated with everything from the Ashcan School to Abstract Expressionism. His paintings of the fifties, such as Theme in Red, show the stimulus of Cubism in their elaborate structure coupled with the action painter’s interest in “finding the painting in the act of painting it.”
