About the Artwork
The career of John Heliker illustrates the necessity of having a good dealer to promote one’s work. Heliker taught studio art at Columbia University, New York, for almost 50 years and would have been known primarily as a teacher were it not for his championship by the Kraushaar Gallery. Between 1945 and 2000 (the year of his death), Kraushaar held 18 shows featuring Heliker’s work. It was at two of those exhibitions that Mrs. Navas purchased the two Heliker’s for the Murdock Collection.
