About the Artwork

Hamilton was trained as an illustrator and it is for his work in this line – specifically his drawings of the far north for Elisha Kent Kanes’ book Arctic Explorations – that he is best known. Hamilton lived and taught painting in Philadelphia; he painted many views of the New Jersey coast as well as fanciful marine images.
