About the Artwork

The brownies are the most industrious and helpful people one could find. If the housemaid befriends them, they remove the scum from the pots, cook the vegetables, do the dishes, sweep, and quiet the baby. There has been a lot of discussion on whether or not they are devils. Why deceive ourselves? Devils are those who are busy doing harm, or hindering others from doing good—or who do nothing at all.

 

Los duendecitos son la gente más acendosa y servicial que puede hallarse; como la criada los tenga contentos, espuman la olla, cuecen la verdura, friegan, barren y acallan el niño. Mucho se a disputado si son Diablos o no; desengañémonos, los diablos son los que se ocupan en hacer mal o en estorbar que otros agan vien, o en no hacer nada.
