Ponder This - September 2021

5 pm | Doors open and cash bar
6 pm | Performances

Ponder This returns to WAM this fall with evenings of thought-provoking and entertaining spoken-word performances featuring local and regional talent.

Spoken Word occupies a central place in African American culture and history. As an art form, particularly in Harlem Renaissance poetry readings with Langston Hughes and others, spoken word evolved as a resonant artistic expression. Today’s spoken word artists pull from blues music, oral tradition, spiritual song, hip-hop, and slam poetry.

Guest host is Alexandria Neloms. Performers include Delma Uqualla, James Sims, Nathan Gibbs, Wanderer, Tom Hanks, Des “The Poet” Bryant, Blakkfist, Mese Soul and Miss Kiki Baybee.

NOTE: As an art form, the expression and perspective is brash and hard-hitting and will not suit all audiences.

Tickets are $15 for the general public, $10 for WAM members, and may only be purchased at the door.
