Sculpting Secrecy at the Wichita Art Museum Wichita: Wichita raised sculptor Michael Aurbach returns to his roots for an exhibition of his monumental sculptures at the Wichita Art Museum. The Secrecy Series: Selected Works by Michael Aurbach opens at the Museum June 13, with a reception and gallery talk for the artist, June 27 from 2 pm to 4 pm. This exhibition offers visitors the opportunity to interact with two life-size works of art; of a size rarely seen at the Wichita Art Museum. Visitors are invited to decipher the meaning of the room-like sculptures through their details. Aurbach creates his work from wood, galvanized metal, and silver paint. The sculptures appear like modern silver rooms full of objects that help express the artist's meaning. Michael Aurbach grew up in Wichita and attended the University of Kansas where he received a B.F.A. in Studio Art and an M.A. in Art History. He later went on to receive an M.F.A. in Sculpture from Southern Methodist University in Dallas. He has been teaching at Vanderbilt University in Nashville and creating his large sculptures for more than twenty years. Aurbach draws his inspiration from life; and uses humor as a way of coping and thinking through what is going on in his environment. The Wichita Art Museum is pleased to have an opportunity to present Michael Aurbach's work and welcome him back to Wichita during the opening of the show. The exhibition The Secrecy Series: Selected Works will run through October 10. This exhibition is made possible in part by the Joan S. Beren Foundation, Inc. and the City of Wichita.
