Presence Program

Welcome!

The Wichita Art Museum is committed to providing the highest quality art education programs available.  WAM’s educational programming fulfills the Museum's mission through the presentation of information and public programs that stimulate curiosity, provide access to the creative process, and expand knowledge.  Educational programming includes art appreciation tools such as guided tours, lectures, and films, but also extends to hands-on creative activities.  We believe that art is for everyone and that learning is a lifelong process, thus to implement those ideals we strive to offer a wide range of programs that provide enjoyable and enriching experiences for visitors of all ages with all levels of familiarity with art.

As an education partner with schools and community groups, WAM offers free docent-led tours to students and of all ages.  The Museum’s education staff also provides ongoing professional development for teachers through teacher training workshops and working partnerships with area schools. The Art Resource Center offers lesson packets, art reproductions, DVDs, books and educational games, all of which are available for educators to borrow for in-class use.  Click on the links to the left to find out more detailed information on educational opportunities.

The Art Resource Center

The Art Resource Center is a lending library of art-related films, slide sets, CD-ROMs, children's books, curriculum guides, posters, and learning kits. A satellite of the National Gallery of Art, the ARC holds all NGA materials as well as items produced by other museums and media sources.

The Art Resource Center contains over 1700 items and reflects, but is not limited to, the collection of the Wichita Art Museum. Represented are many well-known artists from the collection including Mary Cassatt, Edward Hopper, Jacob Lawrence, Georgia O'Keeffe, and Winslow Homer. In addition, the ARC has materials on general interest areas such as Egyptian, Roman, Chinese, and Renaissance art, architecture, and culture for all age groups. There are also abundant resources on African-American art and artists, teacher packets on Latino artists past and present, videos on art of the American West, and several survey programs on American art.

Materials can be shipped free of charge to Kansas schools and educators outside of the Wichita metro area.  If you would like more information on checking out materials from the ARC or have questions about a specific subject area, please call [316] 268-4907.
